The Social Engineering Community runs on people who show up, step in, and make things happen. Our volunteers are a core part of what keeps the village running smoothly, from managing sessions to supporting attendees and everything in between.
This is more than just helping out. It is a chance to be part of the experience. Volunteers get a behind the scenes view of the village, work alongside the team, and play a direct role in how the community shows up at DEF CON.
Every role contributes to creating a smooth, professional, and welcoming environment for everyone involved.
Join the team that keeps everything running. Support events, help attendees, and play a direct role in the experience.
We offer a variety of roles so you can contribute where it fits best. It is a great way to meet others in the community and get involved.

You will be assigned a role for each shift and given clear directions from the team. Things can move quickly at times, but that is part of the experience. Staying aware, communicating, and working together will make everything run smoothly.
Most roles involve being on your feet, helping attendees, and keeping things organized. You do not need to know everything going in. There will always be someone nearby to help, and the team is there to support you throughout your shift.
Volunteers receive a shirt for each day they work. In previous years, we have been able to help volunteers with badges. We hope to do that again, but it is not something we can guarantee.
At the end of the day, you are part of what makes this all come together. Your time and effort help create a smooth, welcoming, and memorable experience for everyone involved.
Help attendees find seats, keep the room organized, and ensure rules are followed, including no recording during live calls.
Manage entry into the room and work with ushers to keep seating organized and sessions running smoothly.
Jump in where needed. Support the team, monitor the room, and help keep things on track.
Manage the line outside, hand out badges or swag, and keep things organized and moving.
Help with merch sales, answer questions, and keep transactions running smoothly.
